between, among It is acceptable to use between with reference to more than two people or things: Viewers tend to switch between channels. However, among is sometimes more appropriate when there is a distinct notion of sharing or distributing: Hand these out among all of you. Between is more usual when individual people or things are named: Duties are divided between John, Margaret and Catherine.
