AD
abbreviation in dates: Anno Domini (Latin), in the year of our Lord, used together with a figure to indicate a specified number of years after that in which Christ was once thought to have been born. Compare BC, BCE. See also Common Era.

AD AD is used with dates to denote the current era. It should, strictly speaking, precede the year number, as AD 2000 , but 2000 AD is now common and acceptable. It is also legitimate to write eg the 6th century AD .
