1 a number of similar, related or identical things arranged or produced in line or in succession, such as a set of books issued by the same publishing house.
2 a TV or radio programme in which the same characters appear, or a similar subject is addressed, in regularly broadcast shows.
3 a set of things that differ progressively.
4 maths in a sequence of numbers: the sum obtained when each term is added to the previous ones.
5 a taxonomic group.
6 music a set of notes in a particular order taken as the basis of a composition rather than a traditional scale.
7 physics an electric circuit whose components are arranged so that the same current passes through each of them in turn.
8 geol a group of rocks, fossils or minerals that can be arranged in a natural sequence on the basis of certain properties, eg composition.
