Australian Rules or Australian Rules Football
singular noun a team game with 18 players on each side, that combines features of both association football (see under football) and rugby and which is played on an oval pitch with a large rugby-like ball which may be carried, kicked or punched, the object being to score by kicking the ball between either of two pairs of goalposts which have no crossbars. Also called national code.
